What is SearchLock?

October 05, 2018

What is SearchLock? SearchLock is a search engine and browser extension that helps you protect your search privacy. Preventing big search companies like Google, and Bing from profiling you based on your searches.

Ads follow you everywhere after you search. These companies create a detailed profile of you based on your search history. Our privacy-enhancing search engine does NOT track you with cookies. Does NOT profile you, and does NOT log anything that can identify you personally.

We recently put together a short video explaining what SearchLock is and why you might want to use it. Check it out:

Have you ever worried about being tracked as you surf the web?

You have a good reason to be concerned. The searches you make on Google, Bing, and other search engines are stored and tied to your personal information?

An employee who works at one of these companies or a government staffer could have the ability to access this information and literally see every search you have made for the past several months. Even your workplace or school can monitor your search queries.

Long story short, your searches are not anonymous and your search history is quite revealing. Almost everyone has searched for answers about family or legal issues, medical conditions, or advice at some point. Are you really comfortable knowing that someone is storing that kind of information about you?

That’s why we created SearchLock.

SearchLock is a search engine and browser extension that helps you protect your privacy by preventing big search companies like Google, and Bing from profiling you based on your searches. Ads follow you everywhere after you search. These companies create a detailed profile about you based on your search history. Our privacy-enhancing search engine does NOT track you with cookies, does NOT profile you, and does NOT log anything that can identify you personally.

SearchLock is a free browser add-on that prevents logging and tracking of your search keywords. It uses patent-pending technology to send your searches to a “privacy-safe” results page that doesn’t store your search history OR tie your searches to anything that could identify you.

Add SearchLock to your browser today to turn-off search tracking for good.

How does SearchLock Protect You?

SearchLock does a few of things to protect your privacy and keep your web searches anonymous:

1. When you install the SearchLock it intercepts any searches you make. These searches could compromise your privacy and redirects them to our privacy-safe search results. This prevents anyone from logging your search history.

2. All of the major search engines record your IP address in their logs along with your search query. SearchLock does not. We have modified our servers do not collect any IP addresses or other information that could identify you in our logs.

3. Google, Bing, and Yahoo also maintain personal information about you that they collect when you sign-up for one of their accounts. Think Gmail, Google+, Hotmail, or Yahoo mail. If your information is on file, they can tie your search history together with the personal information they know about you from your account. SearchLock breaks this link. We maintain no personal information and do not keep a record of your searches together with any identifying information.

4. Unlike some other major sites, we don’t forward your search term to the sites that are listed in our search results when you click on them.
